Round 4 1st XI Match Report
1st Half
After clinching a hard fought win and three points from last week’s game against arch rivals Gregory Terrace, it was time to face Brisbane State High School on Ross Oval for our first home game of the season. Nudgee started the game with positivity, often dominating State High’s defence through high attacking presses and great switches of play out wide. However even with this dominance of play, the final pass was often left wanting. Nudgee’s tempo began to drop towards the end of the first half, which allowed State High to use their fast counter attacking style of football to create some genuine chances and put goalkeeper Ollie Williams under some pressure. With seconds to go in the first half, Declan Parkinson crossed a beautifully weighted ball towards the State High’s back post where striker Lachie Cook headed the ball into the back of the net. The Nudgee supporters in the Ross Grandstand were left disappointed when the referee disallowed the goal for the ball going out in the process of the cross. The Nudgee boys went into the changeroom at half time knowing with the score line still 0-0 they had a game on their hands.

2nd Half
After an intense team talk and a change of formation the boys were ready for the second half. We knew State High was going to come out strong and continue the same way they finished the first half. As the game went on Nudgee took control as State High couldn’t find a way to play out of the press. From a great tackle from young, gun Charli Parkin he picks up the ball and passes it to Declan Parkinson who then clips a pin point pass over the back line to Rylan Brownlie as he brings it down and fires Nudgee a 1-0 lead. With a quick transition Arthur De Lima wins a one on one tackle and slides the ball into the bottom corner against an on coming keeper. Scoring his first goal for Nudgee making the score 2-0. As the game slowly starts running away from State High Rylan Brownlie finds himself yet again in a goal scoring position getting taken out for a penalty. He steps up and rattles the crossbar with the ball bouncing out to Lachie Cook who heads it over the bar. Within the last 10 minutes Arthur De Lima picks up the ball and plays a perfect chip to Rylan Brownlie who takes a calm first touch a slots it into the back of the net sealing a 3-0 win for Nudgee.
